Transformation of Texts

Some selected texts are added to each other to form a linked text. Sometimes the link between these texts is obvious, for example, the chosen texts would support the scope of the original text or they would be opposite to each other. On the other hand, the texts might have a non linear relationship; therefore, the reader is able to read the sections of the text in more than one order. In case of using one of the many transformation techniques, the writer provides a specific relationship between texts to introduce her relationship to the original text. In the beginning, choosing the subject of the text and the transformation method are the main initial steps in transformed text because they will determine the way that the writer will approach to create the final transformed text. Loneliness, the transformed text, the match up method is used to combine the original test with some other ones in order to form a linked text. This particular method is chosen to show the connection between different explanations of the topic, loneliness. This connection between the varieties of texts creates a transformed text that is different than the original one.

Using the printed texts is not the only type of texts we would use in the transformed text. Using images reflects the general emotions that the text is about. The pale colors and some dark shadows appears in the selected images bring the quietness and the sadness to the reader; in addition, seeing only one obvious object in each image gives an idea about what the selected texts are about. Because loneliness is an emotion, it is well described by poetry. The first selected poem provides multiple definitions of loneliness which are based on some observations were made by the writer. One reason for selecting this specific part of the poem is the relationship between it and the image of the moon. The poem and the image represent the moon as a lonely object.

In the following text, the emotions and the feelings of loneliness are represented by using some words such as gray, pain, desire, sadness and never ending. There is a link between this text and the second image because the far gray trees appear to the lonely walking person as if it will never end. The image and the text are connected. They also describe the same feelings using different ways. These ways are words and colors.  The intertexuality between this text and the previous one will be clear if we look at some sentences, for example, “fell on a rock” from the poem and “tearing down my heart” from the second text. Both of them represent the weakness that is associated with loneliness.

The following three texts are explaining some wrong actions and thoughts which are considered when someone feels lonely. Not being nice to others, feeling less confident, losing the desire of going to school or work, feeling rejected and being nervous about making new friend are all linked because they reflect the negativity of being lonely.

As we go on in our journey between texts, the reader will find that some people would react differently with the thoughts and the emotions of loneliness. The writer of this particular text is related the fear of loneliness to the desire to be dependent on others in order to gain a continuous source of her or his needs. The writer also thinks that being in dependent is the right way to deal with the panic of being alone which will make the person happy.

The last three texts provide some solutions to come over loneliness. The poem gives reasons for some examples of loneliness, moreover, it represent the unique vision of  being alone by mentioning “shining for the world”, “glowing for the night” and “falling for the ground”.  In addition, Creating your own happiness alone by finding some interests that you can enjoy alone is the main scope of the last two texts.

The video clip, Kingdom Hearts-Killing Loneliness, is linked to the transformed text because it provides another definition of being alone in form of being separated from the loved one. It also shows the fears that are associated with loneliness by showing the fighting seen of the separated person who climbs up the never ending ladder. In addition, it provides the solution of killing loneliness by coming back to the loved one after a long path of challenges and hardships. This video clip has an opposite relationship with the previous text because it represents an opposite method to kill loneliness. This method is by being dependent on others in order to be saved and protected.

This transformed text is an example of match up method that is used to explain the intertexuality between some texts. From the above explanation of the link between the texts, we will find that these texts together form an organized text about loneliness. The organization is reflected by the way the thoughts of the texts are arranged. Starting with defining loneliness is an introduction that is followed by the effect of loneliness feelings on people’s actions and thoughts. It also represents methods to overcome loneliness at the end. The organization is also reflects the interaction between texts. Although there is an interaction and a link between texts, they seem to have a non linear relationship. This non linear relationship appears because the reader is able to read this transformed text in more than one order. Because it is hard to simulate the hypertext in print, adding two images and a video clip is necessary. Video clips, images, and songs call attention to the nature of the media and stimulate thoughts about the materials being represented.

Transformation of the text is the process which creating a relationship between existing texts. Although some texts are ignored, they would be transformed using one of the transformation methods to create a more interesting text. With the wide range of sources and transformation methods, there is a potential for a countless number of transformational possibilities. By using the match up method to combine and relate texts to each other, the final transformed text is different from the original one. This variation adds to the original text and forms an interesting transformed text. Loneliness, transformed text, comes out a lot different than the original because it shows new ideas and thoughts that are related to the original text but they are not mentioned or explained in it. Transformation might complicate or simplify the original text. In this transformed text, the transformation using match up technique simplifies the original text by explaining in details and mentioning some examples to create organized thoughts. The match up method not only alters the text itself but also our relation to the text. The person who reads this text would develop his or her unique relationship with the transformed version of the text, a relationship that is unlike the one with the original text.
