In Business, Compition Is Superior to Cooperation

July 15, 2007

Business is one of the most important components of a nation’s economy. Well established business provides many stable job opportunities. Companies compete against each other to dominate the market. Because gaining the highest yearly profit is one of the company’s goals, eliminating and destroying another competitive business is beneficial.  In the computer market, there are Apple and Microsoft companies. Each one of them is a well established business. Because of the competition between them the market gets two different computer operating software programs yearly. Without this desire of superiority in the market, we would not gain this advantage of getting multiple products for the same purpose. Consumers would not be able to choose from a lot of varieties. On the other hand, in case of small business, the difficulty to compete against the big companies is undeniable. Small business has a small budget and fewer resources. In this situation, cooperation between small business owners is the best option. They will have the advantage to survive in the market. They will also be able to keep providing the required standard of product with a reasonable price.Surviving in the business world is not easy. Companies should have a good plan to continue growing. The owners have to be smart to choose when to compete and when to cooperate

Progress Often Complicates as much as it Simplifies

July 15, 2007

Progress often complicated as much as it simplifies.A civilization is based on progress. Progress is important because progress makes our lives better although progress seems complicated sometimes. One example for this is the individual spends long time to learn how to use a computer. Computer classes and materials, CDs and videos are offered everywhere. Not knowing how to operate a computer means that the individuals are not able to manage their daily lives at the expected level as the others who know how to use the computer. Elderly people and the older generation do not have the skill and the capability to learn this machine; instead it makes their lives difficult and complicated.

On the other hand, computers are very beneficial. Subways, banks, cell phones, businesses and flights are operated and managed by computers. One reason for this is to make peoples’ jobs easier and faster. Although engineers spend much time establishing a network for one company or business, managers and employees are able to achieve more using the network. It allows them to communicate better which provides the owner of the company with cooperative team work. A team which communicates well is able to achieve more profits.

In conclusion, computers seem to be very complicated devices. Some people have not been able to learn how to use them until now. On the other hand, some individuals know that it is easy to use computers once you learn how to operate them.

Oppertunity Favores Those Who Work Hard

July 15, 2007

In everyday life, there are people who establish their goals. To accomplish them, they have to work hard. They make great efforts and face tremendous hardships to be successful. Individual searches for an opportunity, there are others who are given the right position where his or her efforts are appreciated.

Although the way that the world used to look at women has been changing, discrimination based on gender is still an issue in most Middle Eastern countries. The culture and tradition favor the man who is raised to ignore the value of the woman’s role in the society and to be chosen over her. In this situation, the woman is ignored even if she has better qualifications. These countries do not prioritize finding the right person for the right position as long as the selection that has been made obeys the traditional rules. In addition to gender based discrimination there is a discrimination based on religion. In some countries where Christianity is not the main religion, opportunity is available for most citizens except Christians despite their hard work. The government considers this as a trial to convince Christians to change their faith. Most of the business owners and managers do not promote the hard working Christian even though this action creates an unfair work environment.

Today most people are aware of getting a higher education. One reason for this is to qualify them for better positions and higher salaries. Obviously, they are granted a higher standard of living and financial stability. Another example of a hard working person is Ciline Dion. She is one of the most successful singers because she spends hours preparing for her concerts. Undoubtedly, she has a team which helps her, but she is able to prove that she is a unique singer. After her manager and future husband mortgaged his home to finance her first record, she gained recognition in most parts of the world. In conclusion, there is no doubt that a hard working person is favored by opportunity

The Internet (additional blogging)

July 7, 2007

Although individuals do not all use computers for the same purpose, people can not deny how useful they are. During the last twenty years, internet has invaded most houses and offices in the USA, because it offers direct access to a lot of information. In the same family, a father spends long time online reading about politics, economics, business and sports. He can also use the computer as a source of enjoyment such as gambling or chatting. In addition to this, parents are able to continue working even if they are at home. Being dependent on computers most of the day increases the gap in communication between family members. The mother does not have enough time to have an in depth conversation with her teenager daughter and the father does not have time to play outdoor sports with his son. When the time comes for the whole family to face a crisis, they feel like as if it is the first time for them to communicate with each other. In the case of war, soldiers are far away from home and family. They are separated from their families when they answer their call to duty. If a soldier leaves his pregnant wife for a year, he will be able to see his son, who is growing up away from his father, in pictures, videos and e-mails. In addition, he would be able to talk to his family whenever the time allows. In this situation, computers decrease the gap between family members by keeping them in touch regardless of the distance between them.In conclusion, computers might indirectly cause separation between individuals. However, family individuals have to stay joined together without being separated by microchip baskets are called computers. Parents should be able to organize their daily schedules so the family will be more important than the internet.

Preliminary Research Report

July 7, 2007

Being a physical therapist for seven years makes me exposed to a lot of moments which are based on therapist-patient relationship. Some patients are afraid of being at a therapy place and seeing a physical therapist who wears a white coat; others are worried about their therapy results; and others are frustrated from coming twice a week for treatment without seeing too many changes in their symptoms. In addition, some of them are angry of being in pain, afraid of not getting better and anxious to get better. As a therapist, I face a lot of difficult situations which do not require my medical background to solve, but rather they need wisdom and understanding in order to make the patients feel better physically and emotionally. Writing a “Discourse” about these moments which happen when the patients have some concerns about their treatments and health is interesting. Using the discourse method to describe these situations of being worried, frustrated, and confused will clarify some aspects and help to solve some therapist-patient relationship problems.

Searching for sources is the main process for this “Discourse” because this how the research materials were collected. The book for Reneau Peurifoy, Anxiety, Phobia and Panic, is chosen as a primary text because it defines these feelings and introduces some suggestions for solving them. The clinical explanation of some of these patients’ emotional moments was done by Green, MD and Clark, MD and is also included in this assignment. One reason for this is to give us a better understanding of human behavior. Patients act this way at medical offices because of being stressed out by their pain and fears. Ten Simple Solutions to Stress by Dr. Michaels mentions some moments of stressful situations and introduces some solutions to help the people to overcome these situations. A novel by the bestselling author of panic, Jeff Abbott, is included in this discourse because he provides good descriptions of fears and anxiety moments. All of these sources are providing very interesting information to write the required discourse.

Transformation of Texts

Some selected texts are added to each other to form a linked text. Sometimes the link between these texts is obvious, for example, the chosen texts would support the scope of the original text or they would be opposite to each other. On the other hand, the texts might have a non linear relationship; therefore, the reader is able to read the sections of the text in more than one order. In case of using one of the many transformation techniques, the writer provides a specific relationship between texts to introduce her relationship to the original text. In the beginning, choosing the subject of the text and the transformation method are the main initial steps in transformed text because they will determine the way that the writer will approach to create the final transformed text. Loneliness, the transformed text, the match up method is used to combine the original test with some other ones in order to form a linked text. This particular method is chosen to show the connection between different explanations of the topic, loneliness. This connection between the varieties of texts creates a transformed text that is different than the original one.

Using the printed texts is not the only type of texts we would use in the transformed text. Using images reflects the general emotions that the text is about. The pale colors and some dark shadows appears in the selected images bring the quietness and the sadness to the reader; in addition, seeing only one obvious object in each image gives an idea about what the selected texts are about. Because loneliness is an emotion, it is well described by poetry. The first selected poem provides multiple definitions of loneliness which are based on some observations were made by the writer. One reason for selecting this specific part of the poem is the relationship between it and the image of the moon. The poem and the image represent the moon as a lonely object.

In the following text, the emotions and the feelings of loneliness are represented by using some words such as gray, pain, desire, sadness and never ending. There is a link between this text and the second image because the far gray trees appear to the lonely walking person as if it will never end. The image and the text are connected. They also describe the same feelings using different ways. These ways are words and colors.  The intertexuality between this text and the previous one will be clear if we look at some sentences, for example, “fell on a rock” from the poem and “tearing down my heart” from the second text. Both of them represent the weakness that is associated with loneliness.

The following three texts are explaining some wrong actions and thoughts which are considered when someone feels lonely. Not being nice to others, feeling less confident, losing the desire of going to school or work, feeling rejected and being nervous about making new friend are all linked because they reflect the negativity of being lonely.

As we go on in our journey between texts, the reader will find that some people would react differently with the thoughts and the emotions of loneliness. The writer of this particular text is related the fear of loneliness to the desire to be dependent on others in order to gain a continuous source of her or his needs. The writer also thinks that being in dependent is the right way to deal with the panic of being alone which will make the person happy.

The last three texts provide some solutions to come over loneliness. The poem gives reasons for some examples of loneliness, moreover, it represent the unique vision of  being alone by mentioning “shining for the world”, “glowing for the night” and “falling for the ground”.  In addition, Creating your own happiness alone by finding some interests that you can enjoy alone is the main scope of the last two texts.

The video clip, Kingdom Hearts-Killing Loneliness, is linked to the transformed text because it provides another definition of being alone in form of being separated from the loved one. It also shows the fears that are associated with loneliness by showing the fighting seen of the separated person who climbs up the never ending ladder. In addition, it provides the solution of killing loneliness by coming back to the loved one after a long path of challenges and hardships. This video clip has an opposite relationship with the previous text because it represents an opposite method to kill loneliness. This method is by being dependent on others in order to be saved and protected.

This transformed text is an example of match up method that is used to explain the intertexuality between some texts. From the above explanation of the link between the texts, we will find that these texts together form an organized text about loneliness. The organization is reflected by the way the thoughts of the texts are arranged. Starting with defining loneliness is an introduction that is followed by the effect of loneliness feelings on people’s actions and thoughts. It also represents methods to overcome loneliness at the end. The organization is also reflects the interaction between texts. Although there is an interaction and a link between texts, they seem to have a non linear relationship. This non linear relationship appears because the reader is able to read this transformed text in more than one order. Because it is hard to simulate the hypertext in print, adding two images and a video clip is necessary. Video clips, images, and songs call attention to the nature of the media and stimulate thoughts about the materials being represented.

Transformation of the text is the process which creating a relationship between existing texts. Although some texts are ignored, they would be transformed using one of the transformation methods to create a more interesting text. With the wide range of sources and transformation methods, there is a potential for a countless number of transformational possibilities. By using the match up method to combine and relate texts to each other, the final transformed text is different from the original one. This variation adds to the original text and forms an interesting transformed text. Loneliness, transformed text, comes out a lot different than the original because it shows new ideas and thoughts that are related to the original text but they are not mentioned or explained in it. Transformation might complicate or simplify the original text. In this transformed text, the transformation using match up technique simplifies the original text by explaining in details and mentioning some examples to create organized thoughts. The match up method not only alters the text itself but also our relation to the text. The person who reads this text would develop his or her unique relationship with the transformed version of the text, a relationship that is unlike the one with the original text.

Loneliness is a child spinning a top on an abandoned sidewalk.
Loneliness is a rose petal that fell on a rock.
Loneliness is the sun… don’t you think it’s lonely? or it is the moon. Don’t you think it’s lonely too?

*

My Gray feelings hurt me, rising pain of tearing down my heart, leaving sadness of having lost too much, strong desire for being heard by one, to end my never ending: Loneliness.

*

Sometimes feeling lonely can make you feel nasty. You may think that there is no point in being nice to others because you do not have any friends anyway. But being mean will only make you feel more lonely and unhappy. Feeling lonely can make you feel less confident. You may not want to go to school or work because being with lots of people can make you feel even more alone.

*

Underlying your fear of rejection might be a fear of being or living alone. You might fear ending up all alone in the world with no one who really cares * Sometimes it can seem as if everyone expect for you has lots of friends. That can make you feel lonely and a bit jealous too. Feeling lonely can make you nervous about making new friends.

*

The thought of being all alone in the world is not in itself something to panic about. While some people panic at the thought–others delight at the thought. If you believe that you can take care of your own needs well and be happy even if you are alone, then being alone is nothing to fear. If you believe that you need others to take care of you and “make” you happy, then you are too dependent on others and their absence is something to “panic” about.

*

From our heads to our toes, we are all different. But where you are big or small, or your skin is black or white, we are all people who deserve friendship and respect. It can feel lonely if someone is unkind, or leaves you out because you are different from them. People who do this miss out on good friendships.

*

Examine the degree to which you can create your own happiness–even when alone. Examine how too much dependence on others for happiness can undermine your feelings of confidence with others and lead to fear of rejection.

*

But spare me the epitomes of loneliness, for if I were the sun or the child, the dog, or the rose petal Loneliness would be a top spinning by the hand, the sun shining for the world, the moon glowing for the night, and a rose petal falling for the ground…

*

Learning how to create your own happiness alone is a key part of building self-confidence and overcoming fears of rejection and loneliness. As long as you do not believe that you can create your own happiness and enjoy life alone, then you will be less confident and more dependent on others’ creating your happiness. This dependence makes being in a relationship much more important, and therefore increases anxiety about being alone and increases fears of rejection. For example I have had many clients who thought they could only be happy if they get married and have a family. Yet some feared age would overtake their ability to have children, and no partner was in sight. They developed a terror of not having their happy family dream come true and living their lives alone. That fear caused a desperate need to marry. They became very “needy,” manipulative, and scared potential partners away. As their desperation rose, their chances sank.

*

If you don’t have many interests which you enjoy alone, it is important to begin exploring and finding more. If you have few interests that you can do alone, because you have spent most of your life either with other people or doing what others wanted you to do, then it is especially important for your own independence that you explore new potential interests. You can learn to like activities you currently don’t like. Remember this, if many other people love this activity there must be some fun in it. All you need to do is learn how to enjoy it.

Children and Purity

June 16, 2007

Once there was a scientist who lived worried about the problems in the world, and was decided to find the ways in which these could be less. He would spend days and days in his lab searching for answers with no results. Then one day, his seven year old son invaded his sanctuary, set upon helping him in his task. The scientist, nervous about his son’ s interruption, asked him to go play outside. Seeing that it was impossible to get him out, the father thought of something to give his child to distract his attention. Suddenly he found a magazine in which there was a map of the world! With scissors, he cut in several pieces the map, grabbed some duck tape and gave all that to his son and said: “Since I know how much you like jigsaw puzzles, I am going to give you the world all cut into pieces so that you repair it all by yourself”. The scientist thought that it would take the child at least 10 days to repair the map, but it didn’t happen that way……Just after a few hours, he heard his child’s voice calling him in a
serene way.
“Dad, Dad, I finished repairing the whole map.” At first the father didn’t believe his son. He thought that it was impossible that at his young age, he could repair it without ever seeing it before. Sceptical, looking away from his scientific writings, he directed his sight towards the map that his son had repaired. He was certain to find a job made byjust a kid. Surprisingly, he noticed that the map was very well put together, with all the pieces placed in the correct place. How was that possible? . How was the child capable of doing such a good work? The father with much amazement asked his son: “My child, you didn’t know how the world was , how did you do it? And the child answered:“Dad I didn’t know how the world was…but when you took out the map from the magazine to cut it into pieces, I noticed that in the other side, there was the shape of a man. So I turned each little piece and started to repair the man. When I was able to repair the man, I turned it to the other side and saw that I had repaired the world.”This story reflects that children look at the same things that we, as adults, look at differently. When children watch a fairy tail story with hidden sexual related meanings in it, they do not realize the hidden meanings the way that the adults might do
